A new art installation is bringing ordinary objects to new heights on one of Salt Lake’s most historic city streets. On Point, by Ruben Cabello, was created from a refurbished telephone pole reclaimed from Rocky Mountain Power. The 15-foot pole has been given new life, reimagined, and repurposed into a bright yellow pencil as the latest downtown public art installation commissioned by J. Steven Price, founder and president of Price Real Estate.
WHAT: Press invited for installation and unveiling of Salt Lake City’s newest art piece. Art and building owner, Steve Price, available for interviews at unveiling.
WHEN: Monday, June 13, 2022
9:00 AM: Installation
11:00 AM: Unveiling and public gathering
WHERE: 242 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, 84111
Inspiration: Steve commissioned On Point after seeing the iconic Giant Pencil smokestack in Denver, Colorado, and also remembering sentiments he heard during the Walk of Modern Art in Salzburg; art in public space is the most public face of the state of our culture.
With a firm belief that art is a destination, not a decoration, Steve strives to continue to bring these types of "destinations" to Salt Lake City and the Mountain West. Other Price sculptures in downtown Salt Lake include:
- Ostrich at 445 E South Temple
- Rhinoceros at 230 E South Temple
- Craven (historic steel gantry crane beam with a bronze bird atop) at 470 S 900 E
Artist: Utah-based artist Ruben Cabello brought On Point to life. An autodidact sculptor, he studied under prominent sculptors Ortho Fairbanks and Ursula Brodauf-Craig.
